A Zero rated website – is a website that is free to access! This means that even if you have no airtime, or data available, you can still view and access the content of these websites. There are currently over 1000 zero rated website’s in South Africa, as of March 2021. These websites can be accessed via fixed data(like Telkom ADSL) or mobile data (MTN, Vodacom, and CellC). The Khan Academy is an international recognized online learning platform. What is special about this website, is that the content is offered in isiXhosa and isiZulu. This gives African learners the opportunity to learn in a language that is familiar to them. English is primary language.
Vodacom eSchool
This a initiative by mobile network provider Vodacom, teaching subjects from Grade R all the way up to Grade 12. Study can study from the smartphones, and learning is free if browsing from the Vodacom network. Content is available in multiple languages, and is CAPS aligned.
Siyavula
Siyavula is a publisher of high quality textbooks that a free to download. The textbooks cover Mathematics, Physical Science, Information Technology and Computer Applications. The textbooks can viewed digitally or be printed under the Creative Commons License.
Mindset Learn
This platform is part of the Mindset Learn Network which is well established in South African learning, often seen on TV. The platform provides content in the form of Video, which learners can choose from depending on the subject, of which many are offered.
Western Cape ePortal
This website is provided by the Western Cape Education Department and is portal containing a vast amount of resources for students. Learners can find Rainbow workbooks, OER Textbooks, and online resources submitted by Education Providers.
